The tango is a hot, sultry dance full of strutting proud men and softly flowing women. While it retains many elements of the other dances, it has its own movements which set it apart from the other dances. These are quick turns and jerky arms and leg movements most people are familiar with. When dancing tango dance steps, it should be noted that a proud, strong and quietly dignified expression and bearing is a hallmark of the accomplished tango dancer. When Buenos Aires became the capital of Argentina, immigrants flocked to its newly found prosperity. Here the combination of African, Indian, Spanish and Eastern European cultures joined together to create a wildly emotional dance. The word ‘tango’ is thought to come from an African drum beat ‘tan-go.

And the dance tells the story of sensually charged emotions between man and woman.While it has many similarities to other ballroom dances, the particular movements of the tango are different. There are some of the flowing movements, when both dancers follow each other’s movement, but there are also quick jerky head changes from side to side as if the dancers are slapping each other with stiff upper bodies. Upper body movements are structured and refined with pointing hands and stiff heads. Most of the time the upper body does not move while the legs perform a frenetic routine of their own. Then the upper body becomes fluid, both dancers entwine as the male and female elements engage in their own conversation.The modern tango danced today is a much sanitized version of the original. Much of the original, passionate emotion which first filled the dance was lost. There are no longer the lust-filled gazes and women draped provocatively across the men.

A new form of the Tango is becoming more and more popular by the minute: gay Tango. If you were to visit a gay milonga (Argentinian dance club), you would probably find males partnering with other males, and women partnering with women and dancing the Tango. Since the Tango is a style of dance that is constantly evolving, it is only natural that it move in this direction.

There is one man who has really brought about the popularity of gay Tango: Augusto Balinzano, who tours all over the world to teach this new dance sensation. Already a professional Tango dancer, it was only natural that he begin teaching in this style when he saw how popular it was becoming in night clubs.

You will hear about Gay Tango and Queer Tango. While Gay Tango is all about sexuality, Queer Tango is for both gay and straight people, with the embrace being just as important as the footwork. Follow or lead, it’s totally up to you.

Tango dancing is one of the most well-known forms of ballroom dancing. It is known for being one of the most sensual and romantic forms of dance. It is often viewed as a predatory exchange between partners; it is very sexual and almost hypnotic to watch. It is not something that can be mastered in a day. It takes hard work, dedication and, most importantly, a willingness to express your emotions.

Tango dancing is popular everywhere today. Perhaps it is the wide leg movements, which seem to gracefully draw shapes as the dancers move across the floor, that attract more and more people to tango dancing and ballroom dancing in general. Maybe it’s the slow, sensual movements. Whatever the reason, it is something that anyone can enjoy.

It is a type of ballroom dancing that many new European immigrants began to take up. It is fun and the steps are fairly easily learned. However, learning and mastering are two different things. The beauty of tango dancing, though, is that each couple can interpret the dance in whatever way they want to. It is a great tension and stress relieving activity. It’s all about expressing yourself and letting the music and the moment flow through you.

This king of dance has a very interesting history; you might want to learn about. For instance, unlike some other forms of ballroom dancing, it was often done by lower and middle classes. Upper-class society frowned upon it. Therefore, the tango was not as widely spread.

Luckily, in today’s society, it is alive and well, though, although not quite the same as it used to be. It has been adapted many times, so it still has an air of mystery surrounding it. The original, traditional form of tango is hard to find, these days, but one thing everyone can agree on is that, no matter what version of the tango it is, tango dancing is one of the most romantic forms of dance.
